Cricket Australia has given its green light to a 'self-determination' privatisation model for the Big Bash League, putting the Melbourne Renegades up for a full 100 per cent stake sale. The governing body announced on Tuesday that it will officially invite bids from private investors to acquire the franchise.

The new ownership structure for the Renegades will take effect ahead of the 2027-28 BBL and WBBL campaigns. According to cricket.com.au, the transaction will have zero impact on the upcoming BBL and WBBL editions this Australian summer. Currently, Cricket Australia is running the Melbourne side in a caretaker capacity, with the women's team recently securing West Indies captain Hayley Matthews.
