Fresh Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have sparked fears of a return to full-scale war despite an ongoing “ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas. At least 10 people, including four children, were killed after a residential building in Gaza City was hit overnight during Eid celebrations. More than 20 others were reportedly injured in the attack. According to reports, the Israeli Air Force targeted senior Al-Qassam Brigades figures, including commanders linked to Hamas’s northern operations in Gaza City. The strike came shortly after the funeral of Mohammad Odeh, a senior Hamas military leader killed in an earlier Israeli attack.

Israel has claimed a major victory against Hamas after announcing that senior commander Mohammed Odeh was killed in an airstrike in Gaza City. According to Israeli officials, Odeh had reportedly become one of the top leaders of Hamas’s Qassam Brigades following recent leadership losses inside the militant group. The strike reportedly targeted Gaza City’s Remal neighbourhood, causing heavy destruction and casualties just as residents were preparing for Eid celebrations. Israeli authorities said the operation followed months of intelligence tracking focused on Odeh’s movements and operational network. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a fiery statement after the attack, claiming Odeh had been “sent to the depths of hell.” Israel also accused the Hamas commander of helping coordinate the October 7 attacks on southern Israel. Hamas has not officially confirmed either Odeh’s appointment or his death.
