The flood situation in Assam remains critical as the death toll has risen to 80 following fresh fatalities in Sivasagar district. More than 2.12 lakh people across eight districts continue to face the impact of flooding, with hundreds of villages submerged and thousands displaced. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Assam and other parts of the Northeast, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days. Authorities fear the fresh spell of rain could worsen flooding, trigger flash floods and increase the risk of landslides.
