A rescue has emerged from one of the region's deadliest flood disasters after 64-year-old Chandrika Shrestha was pulled alive from her mud-buried home in Nepal, 10 days after catastrophic floods and mudslides swept through the region. Nepal Armed Police personnel cheered as rescuers discovered Shrestha alive during a clearance operation. In another dramatic rescue, a Chinese man was reportedly found alive inside the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower tunnel, as emergency teams continue their search for people trapped following the disaster. The scale of the devastation remains enormous. Nepal has recovered 1,344 bodies, with around 5,000 people still missing, while China has reported 31 deaths and 531 missing people. Combined figures put the overall death toll at 1,375, with more than 5,500 people still missing. WATCH

Nepal’s catastrophic floods have killed at least 1,204 people, while more than 4,200 remain missing nearly a week after the disaster. Rescue teams are racing against time to reach people believed to be trapped inside hydropower tunnels, with around 900 workers still unaccounted for. Hopes of finding survivors are fading, but rescuers continue searching through tunnels, debris and isolated areas. Teams from Nepal, India, China and the United States are supporting the massive search-and-rescue operation.
