Sri Lanka on Thursday said it will extend USD 1 million in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/india-steps-up-nepal-flood-aid-sends-second-flight-with-37-tonnes-of-supplies-23646927" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">financial assistance to Nepal</a> after flash floods in the country claimed hundreds of lives and left over a thousand missing.
The assistance demonstrates Sri Lanka''s solidarity with the people of Nepal following the floods, Sri Lanka''s foreign ministry said in a statement.
The massive <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/world-news/article/nepal-floods-46-dead-500-missing-after-torrential-deluge-in-nepal-say-officials-23646800" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">flash flood originating in Tibet </a>swept through central Nepal on Wednesday, devastating several towns and villages, washing away critical bridges and crippling a dozen hydropower projects, as it gushed downstream, affecting multiple districts.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed the government to provide a financial contribution of USD 1 million to Nepal, the statement said.
"Sri Lanka stands firmly with the people of Nepal in this hour of need, " it said, adding that the financial contribution is intended to support immediate relief and humanitarian assistance to<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/nepal-floods-death-toll-hits-180-hundreds-remain-missing-heres-what-we-know-so-far-23646951" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"> communities affected by floods and landslides.&nbsp;</a>
