South Mumbai to face major water cut on April 22, BMC issues advisory

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC has announced a scheduled disruption in water supply across several parts of south Mumbai to facilitate infrastructure work aimed at improving distribution efficiencyAccording to the BMC the civic body will undertake the installation of two 1500 mm diameter butterfly valves on a key pipeline connected to the Bhandarwada Hill Reservoir tunnel The work will be carried out at Shivdi along Haji Bunder Road in F South wardThe operation is scheduled to begin at 1000 AM on Wednesday April 22 2026 and continue until 400 AM on Thursday April 23 spanning approximately 18 hoursPurpose of the ProjectThe BMC stated that the installation is part of efforts to streamline water supply from major reservoirs including Bhandarwada Hill Reservoir Fosberry Hill Reservoir and Golanji Hill Reservoir These upgrades are expected to enhance longterm distribution efficiency in the island cityAreas to Face Water Cut and Low PressureThe civic body has cautioned that the work will lead to a complete shutdown of water supply in parts of A B C E and F South wards while some localities will experience low water pressureIn A ward areas such as P DrsquoMello Road Ramgad slum Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus CSMT St George Hospital Government Dental College Reserve Bank of India and the Naval Dockyard will face a water supply shutdown on April 22In B ward several localities including Umarkhadi Noorbag Chinchbunder Walpakhadi Jail Road and surrounding areas will see supply cut on April 22 while parts of Dongri Masjid Bunder Mohammed Ali Road and adjoining areas will be affected on the morning of April 23 Additional zones such as Dana Bunder Wadi Bunder and Mumbai Port Trust areas will also see disruption on April 22In C ward areas like Bora Bazaar Street Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road and Pakmodia Street are expected to face water cuts on April 23E ward will witness a mixed impact While Mazgaon Dockyard Road and nearby areas will face a shutdown on April 22 localities including Nagpada Agripada and Byculla will experience lowpressure supply on April 23 Major hospitals such as JJ Kasturba and Nair are also expected to receive lowpressure water supplyIn F South ward areas including Sewri Wadala East and Abhyudaya Nagar will face water cuts on April 23 while parts of Lalbaug Parel Dadar and Hindmata will receive lowpressure supply Several locations including Sewri Fort Road and port areas will see supply disruption on April 22 Key hospitals such as KEM Tata Wadia and MGM will experience lowpressure supply during the entire work periodAdvisory Issued for ResidentsThe BMC has urged residents in affected areas to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the disruption period As a precautionary measure citizens have also been advised to boil and filter drinking water for four to five days following the restoration of supplyThe civic body has appealed to citizens to cooperate during the maintenance work which it said is essential for improving the cityrsquos water distribution system
