Virar-Dahanu rail project reaches 64 per cent; 15-car trains now run from upgraded platforms

The project, sanctioned at a cost of Rs 3,578 crore, is aimed at augmenting railway capacity along the Virar-Dahanu Road corridor of Western Railway. According to the July 2026 progress update, around 30.35 lakh cubic metres of earthwork and 2.48 lakh cubic metres of blanketing have been completed

TheVirar-Dahanu Road Quadrupling Project under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-III (MUTP-III) has achieved 64 per cent physical progress, with civil and infrastructure works gaining momentum across the corridor, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC) said.

According to MRVC's latest update issued on Sunday, the project is targeted for completion in 2028.
