<p>Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-deputy-cm-eknath-shinde-hits-out-at-rahul-gandhi-over-criticism-of-pm-modis-foreign-policy-23644825" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Eknath Shinde</a> on Monday praised photojournalists for their vigilance and commitment to documenting critical moments, often while putting their own safety at risk.</p>
<p>Shinde was speaking after inaugurating a photography exhibition at the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters ahead of World Photography Day.</p>
<h2>Shinde highlights role of visual storytelling</h2>
<p>Shinde emphasised the power of photography to convey stories and said that "a photograph speaks a thousand words".</p>
<p>He praised photojournalists for keeping their "third eye" open to capture important moments, including during disasters, difficult situations and the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>
<p>He said their work helps keep the public informed by documenting events as they unfold, often under challenging circumstances.</p>
<h2>Suggests 'Changing Thane' as next exhibition theme</h2>
<p>Referring to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mmrda-clears-rs-48000-crore-infra-push-thane-to-be-mobility-hub-kalyan-an-advanced-urban-centre-eknath-shinde-23617406" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane's rapid infrastructure development</a>, Shinde urged photographers to document the city's transformation from narrow streets to modern, wider avenues.</p>
<p>He suggested that next year's exhibition could focus on the theme "Changing Thane", with photographs serving as a visual historical record of the city's development.</p>
<p>The exhibition was jointly organised by the Thane Municipal Corporation and the Thane City Dainik Patrakar Sangh.</p>
<h2>11 TMC school students felicitated</h2>
<p>On the sidelines of the event, Shinde also felicitated 11 students from TMC-run schools who secured places on the merit list of the Maharashtra State Examination Council's Class 4 scholarship examination.</p>
<h2>Ensure pothole-free Ganeshotsav, Shinde tells officials</h2>
<p>Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday directed municipal corporations to take immediate steps to make roads pothole-free ahead of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/ganesh-chaturthi-2026-maharashtras-480-public-mandals-to-compete-for-rs-1-5-crore-state-eyes-unesco-recognition-23645234" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Ganesh Festival</a> and use modern technologies for urgent repairs during the monsoon.</p>
<p>To incentivize swift compliance, Shinde announced that the Urban Development Department (UDD) will reward the top three municipal corporations that successfully deliver pothole-free infrastructure and accident-free festival execution.</p>
<p>Chairing a virtual meeting to review preparations for the festival, which will begin on September 14, he directed civic bodies across the state to prepare a time-bound programme to repair potholes on all major roads, internal streets and routes used for Ganesh processions and idol immersion.</p>
<p>The ten-day Ganeshotsav, Maharashtra's favourite festival, is just a few days away and there should be no potholes on procession and immersion routes, he insisted.</p>
