Actor Omi Vaidya, best remembered for playing Chatur Ramalingam, or "Silencer", in 3 Idiots, has voiced support for climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike. As Wangchuk's protest entered its 17th day, Vaidya urged people not to let the real-life inspiration behind Aamir Khan's character Rancho in the film fade into public memory.

Taking to Instagram, Vaidya shared a heartfelt video appealing to the public to stand with Wangchuk. Drawing a connection between the activist and the beloved 3 Idiots character, he said, "Please don't let Phunsukh Wangdu die." He reminded viewers that the character of Phunsukh Wangdu was inspired by Wangchuk's life and innovations, making the activist's ongoing struggle all the more significant.
