<p>I think we, Mumbaikars I mean, take Khandala for granted. That a beauty like this hill station is barely 2 hours away from us is a miracle. We visited recently, and wondered, why don&rsquo;t we do this more? If you do end up going soon, either before the monsoons end, or in November and December when the temperatures dip, a weekend at Athiva Resort and Spa could be what the doctor ordered. Here are the important reasons to get going.</p>
<h2>The view, the view, the view</h2>

<p>The resort, formerly known as The Duke&rsquo;s Retreat, sits perched 1850 feet above sea level. No wonder it then offers beautiful views of the sprawling cliffs of the Western Ghats and Khandala valley. And if you end up going in what&rsquo;s left of the monsoons, you will sport many a waterfall. In the winters, the view can be enjoyed with a hot cup of tea or a glass of wine. The bedrooms are cosy and give ample view of the valley, if you want to tuck in under the rajai and hibernate. It&rsquo;s a good place for a sleep-cation, I must say.</p>
<h2>The extra bits and bobs</h2>
<p>If you are the kind who likes to partake in activities during a weekend vacation, then Athiva has something for you. There is a video game room, and you and your friends can fight it out. A live sketch artist will capture your winning smile if you want as well. And, yes, there is also a spa! Who doesn&rsquo;t want to just lie down, and have someone massage the aches and pains away? And then, sit in a hot steam room, and watch the work worries vanish away in the mist. How lovely does that sound?</p>

<p>We love a wood-fired pizza, and Athiva had one of the best we ever had. To sit watching a waterfall, and feel the cool breeze that makes you want to wear a sweatshirt, as you tuck into a doughy piece of heaven, well, that&rsquo;s just what joy must feel like. The pizza is well made, melts in the mouth. His is why it&rsquo;s a must you start your trip with a lunch at Panorama, their Italian restaurant.&nbsp;</p>
