If your idea of farming involves acres of land, muddy boots, and a tractor, it might be time for an update. Urban farming workshops are bringing the farm indoors, teaching city dwellers how to grow everything from oyster mushrooms and microgreens to herbs, lettuce and cherry tomatoes. All you need is a little space, some patience and, preferably, a willingness to get your hands dirty.
Anurag Karekar, Founder of Naturalist Explorer, believes the appeal goes beyond simply knowing where your food comes from. “A big driver is social media itself. Restaurants, eateries, and food brands have repeatedly betrayed consumer trust with poor food quality and hygiene standards, and that awareness is now widespread,” he says, “Combined with the rise in lifestyle diseases, people’s faith in the food they consume keeps eroding.”
