Iga Swiatek pleaded with her critics — particularly the Polish media — to leave her alone, saying she knows what she is doing after crushing Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to win her first Wimbledon title on Saturday.

The 24-year-old World No. 4 was asked at her post-match press conference whether winning Wimbledon so convincingly was a fitting riposte to those who have criticised her over her performances.

“For sure, the past months, how the Polish media treated me and my team, it wasn’t really pleasant. I hope they will just leave me alone and let me do my job because I know what I am doing, and I have the best people around me. I have already proved a lot,” said Swiatek, referring to criticism from the media of her home country which has questioned her playing style, technique and coaching team after a string of poor results — she failed to defend her title at the Madrid Open and Italian Open — following her success at Roland Garros last year.
