Shourya Khadilkar of Pawar Public School (Chandivali) emerged champion in the boys U-16 category of the Dream Sports Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) 45th annual inter-school chess tournament at St Sebastian High School (Chembur) on Thursday.
Shourya and Aahaan Mathur of Nahar International School (Chandivali) were level on seven and a half points after eight rounds. But the former was declared winner on account of his stronger tie-break scores of 48 and 44.25, according to the Buchholz (BH) and Sonneborn-Berger (SB) system respectively, which rewards players who have beaten stronger opposition.
