Young keeper-batter Kumar Kushagra was added to India A's roster on Monday as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant ahead of the first two matches on their tour of New Zealand

Pant, who was captaining the Rest of India team in the Irani Cup, suffered a left-side strain that has sidelined him for the opening two fixtures of the upcoming tour.

The star wicketkeeper-batter was initially included in the squad subject to clearing fitness protocols. He currently remains under the supervision of the BCCI medical staff and is making steady progress in his recovery.

"A decision on his availability for the third match will be taken at a later stage," the BCCI stated in an official release. The setback suggests the injury may require a longer recovery period than first anticipated.

The senior men's selection panel opted for Kushagra to plug the gap left by Pant for the first two encounters. Dhruv Jurel will captain the India A side while also handling the primary wicketkeeping responsibilities.
