In the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/womens-t20-world-cup-2026-virat-kohli-anushka-sharma-ravi-shastri-cheer-for-women-in-blue-23637320" rel="nofollow">Women's T20 World Cup 2026</a> semifinal match against England, South Africa suffered a loss by 40 runs at The Oval in south London.
Despite the loss, South Africa's head coach Mandla Mashimbyi stayed positive and said that his side has learned a lot from the overall campaign.
"You just lose and you learn. We've learned a lot in this World Cup. We'll go back to the drawing board and put in place things that will make us even more dangerous and better as a team," he said after the match.
He then said that the team is aware of the gaps and will focus on putting up the work for the future assignments.
"We know where our gaps are, and that&rsquo;s all we can do really. We can't change the results. It&rsquo;s about the work we put in going forward. We want to ensure that when we get another chance to play in a World Cup or ICC Trophy tournament, we are competing with other teams," said Mashimbyi.

Having been put to bat first, England posted a total of 169 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs at The Oval. <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/photo/-wpl-2026-nat-sciver-brunt-becomes-tournament-most-accomplished-star-after-historic-ton-109371/1" rel="nofollow">Skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt</a> displayed an exceptional show with the willow. Facing just 47 deliveries, she garnered 75 runs, laced with 11 boundaries and a maximum. Heather Knight also accumulated 58 runs in 47 balls, including six boundaries and a maximum.
South Africa's Shabnim Ismail and Nonkululeko Mlaba claimed two wickets each. Marizanne Kapp also bagged one wicket. Ayabonga Khaka, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/womens-world-cup-2025-nadine-de-klerk-laura-wolvaardt-stun-india-as-sa-register-three-wicket-win-23597996" rel="nofollow">Nadine de Klerk</a>, and Chloe Tryon went wicketless in the semi-final match against the English side.
Later, in an attempt to chase a target of 170 runs, the Proteas managed to reach just 129 runs by losing eight wickets in 20 overs.
Captain <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/odi-womens-world-cup-2025-captain-laura-wolvaardt-confident-about-south-africa-preparations-for-tournament-23595440" rel="nofollow">Laura Wolvaardt</a> departed after scoring 17 runs in 15 balls, which included three boundaries. Tazmin Brits played a knock of 51 runs in 45 balls, including six boundaries.
England's Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean returned with two wickets each. Linsey Smith, Sophie Ecclestone, and Freya Kemp also registered one wicket each to their names.
With this, the Nat Sciver-Brunt-led England secured a dominant victory by 40 runs against South Africa.
