Team India is set to lock horns with <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-t20is-new-zealand-suffer-injury-blow-as-mark-chapman-zak-foulkes-ruled-out-of-series-due-to-injuries-23654142" rel="nofollow">New Zealand</a> in the multi-format series. Ahead of the series, Pandya sustained a fresh injury to his right shin. Following the injury, he is all set to be ruled out of competitive cricket for at least three weeks, including the white-ball series against the "Black Caps".
Pandya's 'Return To Play' date was set for September 20 and accordingly the selectors picked him for India A for the upcoming One Day series against Australia A starting October 6.
"This is very unfortunate but Hardik's latest scan reports have revealed an injury to his right shin. He has been advised complete rest for a period of two weeks. BCCI's medical panel head Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala has seen his reports and on his return from Japan, will assess him and decide on when he can start his rehabilitation," a BCCI source said according to several media reports.
The New Zealand <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-wi-5th-t20i-ishan-kishan-scores-10-ball-30-but-rain-has-final-say-as-india-west-indies-share-series-23655660" rel="nofollow">T20I</a> series starts on October 22, followed by ODI series. There is no chance of Hardik making a comeback by then.
The 32-year-old cricketer has been based in Bengaluru since the end of the IPL and now trains at the Centre of Excellence after relocating to the Garden City.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-odis-mumbai-all-rounder-suryansh-shedge-in-line-for-team-india-odi-call-up-for-series-against-new-zealand-23655025" rel="nofollow">Mumbai's Suryansh Shedge</a> has emerged as a strong contender to earn his maiden call-up in India's squad for the series against New Zealand.
The chances of him getting a call-up have come after stunning performances in the concluded List A series against Australia A.
The 23-year-old cricketer has represented India in three T20I matches in England and has recently returned to competitive cricket after recovering from his hamstring injury. He has delivered impressive performances with both bat and ball in the unofficial one-day series against Australia A in Puducherry.
