<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-dinesh-karthik-heaps-praise-on-virat-kohli-ahead-of-clash-against-delhi-capitals-23627622" rel="nofollow">Virat Kohli</a> became the first batter to score 9000 runs in the Indian Premier League during the IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals on Monday.
Having started his innings at 8989 runs, Kohli started with a four straight over the bowler's (Dusmantha Chameera) head before becoming the first man ever to complete 9000 runs in IPL.
In front of a pavilion named after him at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Kohli scored his 9000th run with a single off Delhi Capitals skipper <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-bowlers-did-not-execute-our-plans-dc-skipper-axar-patel-after-loss-to-srh-23626850" rel="nofollow">Axar </a>Patel.
Kohli went slow till his 9000th run, before hitting Natarajan for two back-to-back sixes to guide RCB home with nine wickets in just 6.3 overs.
Kohli has scored 8 centuries in the IPL, the most ever in IPL history. Earlier, Kohli became the first batter ever to reach 6000, 7000, and 8000 runs in IPL.
<h2>RCB secured a resounding win against the Delhi Capitals.</h2>
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru thrashed the Delhi Capitals by 9 wickets to secure yet another win in this season's IPL. RCB dominated with the ball earlier before chasing down the total with ease.
Chasing just 76 runs, Devdutt Padikkal smashed 34 runs in 13 balls to get RCB to the total with ease in just 6.3 overs.
Earlier, the Delhi Capitals were all out for just 75 runs by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a historic bowling display by the visitors. The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-kl-rahul-smashes-152-as-dc-score-264-for-2-against-pbks-23627462" rel="nofollow">Delhi Capitals</a> imploded as they were reduced to 13/6 at the end of 6 overs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the lowest ever powerplay score in IPL history.
For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets for just 5 runs in his first three overs. While his pace bowling partner Josh Hazlewood took 4 wickets for 12 runs in his three overs.
With this win, RCB strengthen their grip on the second place in the table. The defending champions are aiming to be only the third team in IPL history to successfully defend their title, after Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians. Punjab Kings are currently at the top of the table after having gone unbeaten in the opening 7 matches.
