In the first Test match against Sri Lanka, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-sl-1st-test-watch-ajinkya-rahane-mimics-ravi-shastri-during-broadcast-23645359" rel="nofollow">Team India</a> was bowled out for 193 runs on Day 4 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium near Galle Fort.
The visitors have a lead of 371 runs.
Coming to bat in the second innings, Team India's opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal departed on a three-ball duck. Fellow opening batsman KL Rahul departed after scoring 35 runs in 47 balls, with the help of two boundaries and the same number of maximums.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-sl-1st-test-shubman-gill-wins-the-toss-and-elects-to-bat-first-23644917" rel="nofollow">Skipper Shubman Gill</a> was dismissed on eight runs in 20 balls, which included a boundary. Devdutt Padikkal returned to the pavilion after scoring 44 runs off 75 balls. His knock was laced with six boundaries. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant smashed 66 runs in 69 balls, including eight boundaries and two maximums. Facing 15 balls, Dhruv Jurel was dismissed on seven runs, which included a boundary.
Ravindra Jadeja and Manav Suthar registered the scores of nine runs. Jadeja faced 19 balls, whereas Suthar's knock of 25 balls included a boundary.
Kuldeep Yadav departed on five runs in 10 balls, followed by Prasidh Krishna's wicket. He scored two runs in seven balls. Mohammed Siraj stayed unbeaten on two runs in six balls.
Sri Lanka's Asitha Fernando claimed four wickets for 31 runs in 8.5 overs. Prabath Jayasuriya bagged three wickets by conceding 43 runs in 11 overs. Lahiru Kumara and Keshara Nuwantha registered two and one wicket each to their names. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva went wicketless in Team India's second innings of the first Test match.

A disciplined Indian bowling performance led by <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-sl-1st-test-manav-suthar-ravindra-jadeja-help-team-india-bowl-out-sri-lanka-for-284-runs-23645280" rel="nofollow">Manav Suthar</a> ensured the visitors secured a commanding 178-run lead over Sri Lanka on the third day of the first Test match.
Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 284 in their first innings as left-arm spinner Suthar (4/76) and experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (3/57) spearheaded the attack on a spin-friendly surface.
The hosts were initially left reeling at 99 for five by lunch following an early burst from Suthar. However, Sonal Dinusha constructed a resilient maiden international century, scoring 100 off 168 balls, and paired with veteran wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella (80 off 115 balls) to build a formidable 146-run stand for the sixth wicket.
The duo frustrated the Indian attack throughout the second session, adding 116 runs without losing a wicket. Both batters showed great judgment on a favourable pitch, frequently using the sweep shot to counter the Indian spinners. Dickwella reached his half-century in 67 deliveries, while Dinusha brought up his fifty off 92 balls.
The partnership finally ended early in the evening session when Dickwella, who was earlier put down on 20 by KL Rahul, edged pacer Prasidh Krishna to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/chief-minister-pushkar-singh-dhami-agrees-to-help-rishabh-pant-buy-land-in-uttarakhand-23643871" rel="nofollow">Rishabh Pant</a>. Dinusha completed his century off 167 balls shortly after, but was trapped leg-before by Jadeja on the very next delivery.
