Ahead of second T20I match between <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/nz-vs-ind-1st-t20-india-beat-new-zealand-by-4-wickets-sanju-samson-scores-67-23656438" rel="nofollow">Team India</a> and England, the Indian camp has received a major blow. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the clash as he sustained a low grade right adductor strain.
The match is scheduled to be played on October 24 at the Hagley Park South in the central city of Christchurch.
Following the injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a post on its official social media handle.

The left-handed batsman sustained the injury during the first <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/nz-vs-ind-1st-t20-new-zealand-race-to-61-1-after-six-overs-bhuvi-arshdeep-wicketless-23656392" rel="nofollow">T20I</a> match, which was also played in Christchurch. Kishan managed to score just one run in three balls in the opener of the five-match series.
However, the "Men in Blue" registered a victory by four wickets against the "Black Caps" in a high-scoring match.

Sanju Samson continued his extraordinary form in 2026, scoring a majestic 67 off just 33 deliveries as India completed their largest successful T20 chase, overcoming a mid-innings collapse to secure a four-wicket victory in the series opener against <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-1st-t20i-glenn-phillips-speaks-about-four-wicket-loss-against-team-india-23656498" rel="nofollow">New Zealand</a>.
After being sent in to bat, New Zealand scored a massive 225/8 after explosive knocks from Finn Allen (45 off 24) and Glenn Phillips (82 not out off 40), exposing Indian bowling vulnerabilities.&nbsp;
In response, Sanju Samson delivered for India. His electric 33-ball display featured eight boundaries and four sixes, marking his eighth 50-plus score in 26 T20 innings this year.
Alongside him, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-afg-1st-t20i-team-india-opening-batsman-abhishek-sharma-speaks-about-challenges-of-facing-jasprit-bumrah-23649950" rel="nofollow">opener Abhishek Sharma</a> struck 29 off 12, hitting Adam Milne for consecutive sixes in the fourth over as the duo posted 93 for the first wicket. India dominated the powerplay with 94/1, but spinners Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell sparked a collapse, capturing three wickets for seven runs.&nbsp;
Slipping from 93/0 to 122/4 in the 11th over, batters like Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma fell short while attempting to clear Christchurch&rsquo;s large boundaries.
Captain Shreyas Iyer stabilised the chase with a vital 42, surviving a dropped chance by Finn Allen in the 15th over when India required 55 runs from the final 30 balls. Debutant Naman Dhir then turned the game with an unbeaten 42 off 15 balls, delivering clutch strikes under pressure to seal the record victory with two balls remaining.
Earlier, New Zealand equalled the highest team score against India, recording their biggest T20 total on home soil. After a steady opening over from returning bowler <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ind-vs-nz-t20is-strong-ipl-performance-helps-bhuvneshwar-kumar-earn-back-place-in-india-squad-check-statistics-23653792" rel="nofollow">Bhuvneshwar Kumar</a>, appearing in international cricket for the first time in nearly four years, Tim Seifert (24 off 17) and Allen attacked the seamers. Mayank Yadav eventually broke the 65-run opening stand by taking Seifert's wicket, but Phillips and Bevon Jacobs (31 off 16) continued the assault.
New Zealand scored 67 runs off the final five overs, with Axar Patel conceding 51 in four overs and Bhuvneshwar returning figures of 0/49.
