In the first ODI match against New Zealand, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/virat-kohli-birthday-wishes-flow-in-for-indian-star-on-his-38th-birthday-23658595" rel="nofollow">Team India</a> secured a win by five wickets at the Eden Park in Auckland.
During the match, Team India's pacer Gurnoor Brar spoke about how pulling back his length helped him reap rich dividends.
The pacer conceded a six in his first over, after which he spoke to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/photo/ind-vs-nz-1st-odi-arshdeep-singh-joins-javagal-srinath-mohammed-shami-after-four-wicket-haul-113904" rel="nofollow">Arshdeep Singh</a> and Anshul Kamboj. Brar revealed that his teammates had suggested he hit the hard length to get a better bounce on the pitch.
"The six I conceded off my first over was on a slightly fuller delivery. So, my thought process was to pull the length back to make it harder to hit over square leg or fine leg," he told BCCI.tv.
"I discussed this with Arshdeep (Singh) and Anshul (Kamboj), who had bowled on this wicket. They suggested if we hit the hard length, I would get better bounce because of my height," added Brar.
Later, Brar returned with the figures of three wickets for 44 runs in 9.2 overs. In the second essay of the game, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/photo/ind-vs-nz-1st-odi-virat-kohli-surpasses-sachin-tendulkar-for-most-runs-while-chasing-in-format-113906/1" rel="nofollow">Team India's superstar batsman Virat Kohli</a> smashed 74 runs off 51 deliveries. His knock was laced with 13 boundaries and a maximum.
Following his knock, the "Men in Blue" managed to secure the win.
With this, the "Men in Blue" have taken a lead by 1-0 in the five-match series against New Zealand. The visitors will look to continue their winning momentum and seal the series. Earlier, Team India, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, won the T20I series by 3-2 against the "Black Caps".
