Amid the rising hype for the shortest format of the game, former Team India cricketer <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/harbhajan-singh-feels-no-one-wants-to-be-an-off-spinner-anymore-23612072" rel="nofollow">Harbhajan Singh</a> has stressed the importance of prioritising Test cricket.
Speaking during an event, the former spinner stated that Test cricket is where you can get the best cricketers and competition.
"See, in my view, if I were a part of the committee, I would make a strong recommendation that Test cricket should be the priority. That is where you get the best cricket and the cricketers. The best competition you can see, the game lasts for five days, and every day the challenge becomes different, from day one to day five," he said.
He also said that the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/former-bcci-president-is-bindra-passes-away-at-84-23613844" rel="nofollow">Board of Control for Cricket in India</a> (BCCI) need to make sure that there are pitches where the match lasts for five days and doesn't end in two or three days.
"A lot of things happen on the pitch, and accordingly, people need to change their game, mindset and adapt to those conditions and come out as winners. If I were a part of the ICC or BCCI's committee, I would tell them to save Test cricket; we have to have (play) more Test cricket," said Harbhajan.
"Make sure that we play on better wickets where <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/no-more-interest-in-test-cricket-lalit-modi-proposes-exciting-idea-for-the-format-survival-ipl-indian-premier-league-23626223" rel="nofollow">Test cricket</a> lasts for five days and not just two and a half or three days. It is up to all of us to save this beautiful game, and the only way we can save this is if we can have the game going on the fifth day. You see, Ashes and some of the top series still attract a lot of people to come over and watch the game. We can do the same in India, when India and Australia play, why are we finishing the game in two and a half or three days, we need to make sure that we produce those kinds of pitches where everybody is in the game and it goes onto the fifth day," he added.
