New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced a one-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI in NYC public schools, affecting nearly 600,000 students from 2-K through eighth grade. The policy targets AI tools used directly by younger students, including generative AI and AI-powered educational platforms. Around 40 AI-based tools currently used in NYC schools are expected to be suspended under the new policy.

Amid the NEET Re-exam row, a major legal showdown has erupted after Telegram challenged the Centre's decision to temporarily restrict access to the platform. The government says the move is necessary to stop fake paper leak claims, exam scams and misinformation targeting students. The NTA claims several Telegram channels were allegedly demanding money from candidates by falsely promising access to question papers. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has criticised the decision, arguing that millions of ordinary users are being punished despite the platform removing hundreds of suspicious channels.
