Assam continues to battle one of its worst monsoon disasters of the season as the flood crisis deepens across the state. The death toll has climbed to 97, while more than 1.68 lakh people remain affected across 15 flood-hit districts, with rescue and relief operations continuing on a war footing. Rising river levels and relentless rainfall have submerged vast stretches of villages, forcing families to abandon their homes in search of safety. Around 30 families have taken shelter at a relief camp, while several others including children and elderly residents have been seen living along railway tracks with their livestock after floodwaters inundated their homes. The situation worsened after four gates of the Doyang Dam were opened, leading to a fresh surge of water in parts of the Golaghat region. Authorities continue to monitor river levels closely as fears of further flooding remain high. WATCH
