The advisory was jointly issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency and the Cabinet Office after a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off the northern coast near the Chishima Trench region on Monday evening

The earthquake occurred at approximately 4:53 pm local time off the Sanriku coast, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)
