The incident took place around 9.30 am on August 24 when the complainant, Bharati Bhaskar Pashte, was travelling with three other women from Kelichapada to Kanchad in Wada

The protesting students began their march from Gandhi Maidan during which they broke through barricades put up by the police and engaged in a scuffle with security personnel. Student organisations had called for a march and proposed to stage a protest outside the Chief Minister's residence
