Kerala is battling a rapidly worsening flood disaster as relentless monsoon rains continue to lash the state, claiming 15 lives and forcing more than 7,600 people to take shelter in relief camps. Torrential rainfall has inundated towns, triggered landslides and damaged homes, leaving thousands displaced as authorities race to prevent the humanitarian crisis from escalating further. According to officials, 273 relief camps have been set up across Kerala, providing food, drinking water, medical assistance and emergency shelter to affected families. The government has also stepped up health surveillance and epidemic prevention measures to minimise the risk of disease outbreaks in flood-hit regions. Malappuram has reported the highest number of fatalities so far, while search and rescue operations continue for those still missing. The death toll has climbed to eight, including three children, as heavy rain batters several districts and rescue teams race against time to save lives. The worst-hit regions include Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki, where landslides have flattened homes, destroyed infrastructure and left families devastated. In Kottayam, a landslide crushed a house, killing two women, while separate landslides in Idukki claimed two more lives as torrential rain continued to lash the hill districts. The humanitarian impact continues to grow, with more than 1,300 people taking shelter in relief camps across Kerala.
