Climate Change

Europe is facing one of its most severe early summer heatwaves, with record-breaking temperatures pushing infrastructure to its limits. As temperatures climb above 40°C in several countries, roads are melting, tram tracks are buckling, train services are being disrupted, and power grids are coming under increasing pressure. Hospitals are also reporting a surge in heat-related cases as millions endure dangerous conditions. The World Health Organization has warned that Europe is the fastest-warming continent on Earth and has linked the ongoing heatwave to a growing number of excess deaths.

Northern Japan is facing a rapidly escalating wildfire crisis as massive forest fires continue to spread across Iwate Prefecture, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. What began on April 22 has now turned into a multi-front emergency, with two major blazes tearing through dry, mountainous terrain and pushing dangerously close to residential areas. Authorities confirm that more than 1,100 hectares of land have already been scorched, with flames advancing under persistent dry weather conditions that have made containment efforts extremely difficult. The situation intensified when a second fire broke out within just two hours near Otsuchi, roughly 10 kilometers from the first blaze, stretching firefighting resources even further. Hundreds of families have been forced to evacuate, with over 300 residents currently taking refuge in emergency shelters. WATCH
