Assam continues to battle a devastating flood crisis as relentless rainfall and overflowing rivers leave a trail of destruction across the state. The death toll has risen to 78, with three more fatalities reported in the latest wave of flooding, while seven districts remain submerged, affecting nearly three lakh people. According to official figures, floodwaters have inundated 551 villages, forcing thousands of families to leave their homes as roads, schools, bridges and public infrastructure remain underwater. The disaster has also dealt a severe blow to agriculture, with more than 21,500 hectares of cropland damaged, raising concerns over livelihoods and food security. The Assam government has intensified relief efforts by dispatching 30 trucks loaded with food, clothing and other essential supplies to the worst-affected districts. In a major relief announcement, the Himanta Biswa Sarma government has approved ₹15,000 in immediate financial assistance for every flood-affected family to help them cope with the crisis. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the flood situation with Assam MPs and assured full cooperation between the Centre and the state government to strengthen rescue, rehabilitation and relief measures. Assam continues to battle one of its worst monsoon disasters of the season as the flood crisis deepens across the state. The death toll has climbed to 97, while more than 1.68 lakh people remain affected across 15 flood-hit districts, with rescue and relief operations continuing on a war footing. Rising river levels and relentless rainfall have submerged vast stretches of villages, forcing families to abandon their homes in search of safety. Around 30 families have taken shelter at a relief camp, while several others including children and elderly residents have been seen living along railway tracks with their livestock after floodwaters inundated their homes. The situation worsened after four gates of the Doyang Dam were opened, leading to a fresh surge of water in parts of the Golaghat region. Authorities continue to monitor river levels closely as fears of further flooding remain high. WATCH
