Iran's main military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, on Sunday warned that any further US military action against Tehran, or support for such action by regional countries, would trigger what it described as "painful" strikes.

The warning came as tensions remained high in the region, with Iranian officials also setting conditions for any possible return to negotiations with Washington and for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
