The truth of discomfort comes from the uncanny. Chinese robotics startup AheadForm has created a humanoid robot head that is eerily similar to the human form. This uncanny robot head can reproduce human movements and expressions. Yuhang Hu, an engineer who trained at Columbia University’s renowned Creative Machines Lab in New York, stated that this was necessary to break down the barrier between humans and machines. The Origin M1 robotic head replicates human expressions such as furrowed eyebrows, slight smiles, blinking, and eye movements. This is possible as the humanoid is powered by 25 to 42 brushless micro-motors that contract and release artificial muscles to reproduce human expressions. It also features cameras in its eyes to scan its environment, along with microphones and speakers for voice interactions. Due to these brilliant (unnecessary) features, the bill comes up to around $1,50,000.
