Shah arrived at the temple before dawn and participated in the sacred Mangala Aarti, one of the first rituals of Rath Yatra day, before taking darshan of Lord Jagannath.

Thousands of devotees assembled at the temple to witness the religious ceremonies as preparations concluded for the departure of the chariots carrying Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

Senior Gujarat government officials, temple authorities and police personnel remained present at the temple as the city geared up for the annual Rath Yatra.

The nearly 400-year-old Shree Jagannathji Mandir in Jamalpur serves as the starting point for the annual Rath Yatra, which travels through Ahmedabad before returning to the temple later in the day.

Regarded as the second-largest Jagannath Rath Yatra after Puri, the Ahmedabad procession attracts lakhs of devotees from Gujarat and across India every year.
