Persistent rainfall and waterlogging in Pune have raised concerns over mosquito-borne illnesses. According to the latest Maharashtra Health Department data, Pune district has recorded 111 confirmed dengue and 137 chikungunya cases, with no deaths reported from either disease.
Breeding sites
Excavation work, construction debris, open and clogged drains, garbage accumulation and rainwater stagnating in potholes and low-lying areas can provide breeding sites for mosquitoes. The recent rains and water accumulation have increased the need for sustained mosquito-control measures, proper waste management and public-health surveillance.
