<p><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/pm-modi-calls-paper-leak-issue-a-national-concern-seeks-united-action-at-ndas-mangal-milan-23640854" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</a> on Tuesday attended the NDA Parliamentary Party's weekly 'Mangal Milan' meeting at Parliament, alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and senior leaders of the ruling alliance.</p>
<p>The meeting was held at 9.30 am in the GMC Balayogi Auditorium at the Parliament Library Building amid the ongoing Monsoon Session.</p>
<h2>NCPI attends NDA meeting for the first time</h2>
<p>For the first time, the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) participated in the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/nda-parliamentary-party-meet-underway-pm-modi-congratulated-for-series-of-trade-deals-23614955" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">NDA Parliamentary Party meeting</a> following its inclusion in the ruling alliance.</p>
<p>Former Trinamool Congress leaders who recently joined the NCPI were expected to attend the meeting. The party's MPs, including Sudeep Bandopadhyay, Kakoli Ghosh, Shatabdi Roy, Sharmila Sarkar and Mitali Bagh, were among those expected to be present.</p>
<h2>Anti-paper leak Bill high on agenda</h2>
<p>The meeting assumes significance as Parliament prepares to debate the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh.</p>
<p>The proposed legislation seeks to strengthen the legal framework against paper leaks and examination malpractices through seven key amendments to the 2024 law. These include provisions for time-bound investigations and trials, the establishment of Special Fast-Track Courts and Special Task Forces, appointment of Special Public Prosecutors, enhanced punishments, higher financial penalties and a streamlined appeals mechanism.</p>
<p>The Bill was introduced amid continuous sloganeering by <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/opposition-mps-move-adjournment-notices-over-police-action-on-neet-protesters-at-jantar-mantar-23641784" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Opposition members</a>, leading to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha.</p>
<h2>Young NDA MPs to lead debate</h2>
<p>The NDA has lined up several young Members of Parliament to participate in the discussion on the Bill. Among those expected to speak are BJP MPs Bansuri Swaraj and Tejasvi Surya, along with Alok Kumar Suman (JD(U)), Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP), Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena), Sunil Tatkare (NCP), Anupriya Patel (Apna Dal), Arun Bharti (LJP-Ram Vilas), and NDA allies Sharmila Sarkar and Mitali Bagh.</p>
<h2>Opposition continues protest over police action</h2>
<p>The NDA meeting comes amid continued disruptions in Parliament by Opposition parties, which are demanding accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police action during the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' protest.</p>
<p>The Opposition has also questioned the effectiveness of the proposed anti-paper leak legislation.</p>
<h2>PM reiterates support for students</h2>
<p>At the previous 'Mangal Milan' meeting held on July 21, Prime Minister Modi had said the government "stands with the students" and stressed that paper leaks were a matter of national concern that should not be politicised.</p>
<p>Later, Parliamentary Affairs Minister <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/kiren-rijiju-urges-mps-to-back-anti-paper-leak-bill-in-parliament-23641754" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Kiren Rijiju</a> said the Prime Minister had called for strict action against those involved in examination irregularities after consultations with legal experts. Rijiju added that safeguarding students' interests remained the government's priority while also highlighting the government's focus on farmers' welfare and recently signed free trade agreements.</p>
