<p>A <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/neet-paper-leak-controversy-mumbai-aspirants-react-to-sonam-wangchuks-hunger-strike-demand-fair-exam-system-23639875" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">NEET aspirant</a> from Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district allegedly died by suicide after receiving lower-than-expected marks in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), police said, reported IANS.</p>
<p>The deceased has been identified as Ankita Sangale, a resident of Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar district, reported IANS.</p>
<h2>Student was reportedly under stress over exam results</h2>
<p>According to family members, Ankita had scored 166 marks in the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/neet-ug-2026-result-re-exam-tougher-but-fairer-say-candidates-as-results-are-declared-23640322" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">NEET examination</a>. They said she had expected a higher score and had been under stress after the results were announced.</p>
<p>The incident occurred at around 4.30 pm on Saturday at her residence.</p>
<p>Family members said she had a separate room where she regularly prepared for her examinations. When there was no response from inside the room for a prolonged period, they entered and found her unresponsive before informing the police, reported IANS.</p>
<h2>Police register ADR, investigation underway</h2>
<p>Based on information provided by a family member, the police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.</p>
<p>Officials said further inquiries are in progress.</p>

<p>The incident has once again brought attention to the growing concerns over academic pressure faced by students preparing for highly competitive entrance examinations.</p>
<p>Authorities and mental health experts have repeatedly urged students and families to seek support during periods of stress and not allow examination results to define a student's future or well-being.</p>
<p>NEET is one of India's most competitive entrance examinations for admission to undergraduate medical courses, with lakhs of students appearing for it every year.</p>

<p>Media reports and experts have highlighted increasing concerns over the mental health challenges faced by NEET aspirants. Factors cited include intense competition, academic pressure, parental expectations and the emotional burden associated with high-stakes entrance examinations.</p>
<p>The cancellation of NEET-UG and the subsequent re-examination following allegations of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/govt-to-introduce-public-examinations-amendment-bill-with-tougher-anti-paper-leak-measures-23641782" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">paper leaks</a> also contributed to anxiety and uncertainty among many aspirants. The disruption to the examination schedule and concerns over medical admissions added to the stress experienced by students, with reports documenting several student suicides during the re-examination period.</p>
