IMD forecasts heavy rain in East, heatwave to persist in parts of South India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a sharp weather divide this week, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected across eastern and northeastern states, while hot, humid conditions and heatwave warnings continue for parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and eastern coastal regions over the next few days.

The national weather narrative has split cleanly down the middle, presenting a dual-threat scenario: a relentless, soaking monsoon siege in the East and Northeast, running parallel to a punishing, humid heatwave gripping the southeastern coast.
