Defamation case: Nashik court grants bail to Rahul Gandhi

A court in Nashik district of Maharashtra has granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case filed over his comments about Hindutva ideologue and freedom fighter V D Savarkar during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022, reported the PTI.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, appeared via video link before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R C Narwadia and pleaded not guilty.

The case was filed by Devendra Bhutada, a local resident and NGO director, through his lawyer Manoj Pingle, under Sections 500 (defamation) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code, according to the PTI.
