Tension prevailed outside a private school in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/hyderabad-police-arrest-man-accused-of-sexually-assaulting-minor-girl-23639943" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Hyderabad's </a>Sayeedabad on Wednesday as BJP leaders, party workers and parents staged a protest over allegations that a teacher assigned religious homework to Class 2 students.
Police intervened to maintain law and order and detained several protesters during the demonstration.
The protesters demanded strict action against the school management, including the cancellation of the institution's recognition, the arrest of the principal and suspension of teachers allegedly involved.
BJP leader Andela Sriramulu Yadav, who was detained during the protest, questioned the alleged assignment given to students and accused the school of promoting religious teachings.
He also made political allegations against <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-civic-body-election-2026-aimim-will-never-align-with-bjp-says-asaduddin-owaisi-23612872" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">AIMIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi</a> and Akbaruddin Owaisi, claiming they were attempting to disturb the city's communal atmosphere.
Another BJP leader and advocate, Karuna Sagar, who also reached the school during the protest, criticised the police for not registering an FIR. He demanded the arrest of the principal, alleging that students were being compelled to study religious texts.
Amid the growing controversy, the school management terminated the services of the teacher at the centre of the allegations.
In an order dated July 15, the management said her employment as a "Mother Teacher" at the Sayeedabad branch would end with effect from July 16.
The order also stated that she had been permanently debarred from seeking employment in any institution under the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/fifa-aiff-telangana-talent-academy-launched-to-nurture-young-footballers-23636106" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Success Group of Education.</a>
The action came after the parents of a student and local BJP leaders lodged a complaint at the Saidabad police station, alleging that the teacher had assigned religiously themed homework to Class 2 students.
Police have not yet issued a detailed statement on further legal action or the status of the investigation.
