BJP national president Nitin Nabin resigned from the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/photo/in-photos-bihar-election-2025-poll-body-gears-up-for-second-phase-of-voting-108193/1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Bihar Assembly</a> on Monday, two weeks after his election to the Rajya Sabha.&nbsp;
His resignation from the Bankipur seat was submitted to Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar by state BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi.
Talking to PTI, Kumar said, "Nitin Nabin's resignation was submitted to me by Saraogi. It has been accepted. I have forwarded it to the officials concerned for further formalities."
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also resigned from the state legislative council on Monday. Both Nabin and the JD(U) supremo were elected to the upper house of Parliament on March 16.
In a post on X earlier on Monday, Nabin said, "Today, I am resigning from the post of elected member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from the Bankipur constituency."
"Over the past 20 years, I have continuously strived to nurture and develop this constituency, built by my late father, Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha, with dedication. I have always worked with complete commitment towards the development of my constituency and the state of Bihar.
"As a result, the people blessed me with the privilege of serving them by electing me as their representative to the Assembly five consecutive times," the BJP chief added.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/nitin-nabin-from-bihar-becomes-new-bjp-president-to-take-charge-on-january-20-23612707" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Nabin</a> said that he would remain committed to the development of the Bankipur constituency and Bihar in the "new role that the party has assigned to me."
<h2>Nitin Nabin becomes new BJP National President</h2>
Nitin Nabin, in January 2026, became the chief of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after 37 nomination papers were filed in favour of him. <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/bjp-names-bihar-minister-nitin-nabin-as-national-working-president-23607712" rel="nofollow">Nabin </a>was sworn in as the new party chief in New Delhi.
A Bihar legislator, Nabin, succeeded Union Minister JP Nadda as the new BJP chief.&nbsp;
In January, senior BJP leader and returning officer K Laxman announced that Nabin was the sole candidate for the top party post.
In a statement, Laxman said that 37 sets of nomination papers were filed in favour of Nabin as the BJP National President, all of which were found to be valid.
<h2>PM Modi backs Nitin Nabin</h2>
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/uae-president-in-india-pm-modi-welcomes-uae-president-sheikh-mohamed-bin-zayed-al-nahyan-at-airport-hails-strong-friendship-between-both-nations-23612692" rel="nofollow">PM Modi</a> was among the proposers of Nabin's candidature for the post of BJP National President. Apart from him, other senior BJP leaders, including Nadda and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, also proposed Nabin's name.
According to the schedule, the nomination process for the BJP National President Election was completed between 2 pm and 4 pm on January 19, said Laxman.
He said the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/bjp-president-nadda-to-be-on-two-day-visit-to-mumbai-from-tomorrow-23336111?button=next" rel="nofollow">BJP National President's Election process</a> was initiated after the election of 30 out of 36 state presidents, well above the required number for completing a minimum of 50 per cent.
The schedule of events was notified and the electoral roll was published on January 16.
Of 37 sets of nomination papers, 36 were from states which bore the signatures of 20 leaders in each set of papers.
The other set of nomination papers was proposed by members of the BJP Parliamentary Board, including the PM and 37 Members of Parliament (MPs).&nbsp;
