<p>Army troops opened fire after detecting suspicious movement along the Line of Control (LoC) in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/jammu-and-kashmir-army-opens-fire-on-pakistan-drones-along-loc-in-rajouri-23611930" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district</a> on Friday night, triggering a brief exchange of small arms fire across the border, officials said.</p>
<p>The firing occurred in the Tarkundi forward area around 10 pm and continued for nearly 90 minutes. No casualties or injuries have been reported.</p>
<h2>Troops respond to suspected infiltration attempt</h2>
<p>According to officials, soldiers deployed along the LoC noticed suspicious movement by suspected terrorists near the forward area, prompting them to open fire.</p>
<p>The firing was followed by retaliatory small arms fire from across the border before the situation returned to normal.</p>
<p>Officials said there was no immediate confirmation of any infiltration or casualties during the exchange.</p>
<h2>Search operation launched in the area</h2>
<p>A <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/jammu-and-kashmir-encounter-breaks-out-following-search-operation-in-rajouri-district-23382736" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">search operation was launched</a> on Saturday morning to determine whether any infiltrators had managed to enter Indian territory.</p>
<p>Security forces are conducting searches in the area while maintaining heightened surveillance along the LoC to prevent any infiltration attempts.</p>
<p>Officials said the operation is ongoing.</p>
<h2>Anti-terror operation continues in Thanamandi</h2>
<p>The latest incident comes days after joint security forces launched a large-scale search operation in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri district following reports from local villagers about the movement of two suspected terrorists.</p>
<p>Officials said CCTV footage purportedly showed two suspected terrorists crossing a road late on Sunday night, prompting a coordinated search by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/search-for-two-let-terrorists-enters-second-day-in-jammu-and-kashmirs-shopian-23638291" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"> Jammu and Kashmir</a> Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Army.</p>
<p>Search teams were deployed across Bhanghai, Hasplote, Karyote, Kopra Top and adjoining forested areas to trace the suspects. However, no contact had been established with the suspected terrorists at the time of the latest update.</p>
<h2>Operation Sheruwali targets infiltration routes</h2>
<p>The ongoing search forms part of Operation Sheruwali, a prolonged anti-terror operation launched in May 2026 to dismantle suspected terrorist hideouts and monitor infiltration routes across the dense forests of the Manjakote and Sunderbani sectors in Rajouri district.</p>
<p>Security forces have intensified surveillance in the region, which has witnessed renewed militant activity in recent years.</p>
<h2>Rajouri remains a sensitive security zone</h2>
<p>Rajouri has long remained a strategically important district due to its proximity to the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/jammu-kashmir-indian-army-foils-infiltration-bid-along-line-of-control-in-uri-pakistani-terrorist-killed-23620979" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Line of Control</a>. The region witnessed intense militancy during the late 1990s and early 2000s, when terrorist groups operating from forested and mountainous terrain carried out several attacks targeting civilians.</p>
<p>After a prolonged period of relative calm, violence resurfaced in January 2023 with attacks in Dhangri village, where militants targeted civilians and an improvised explosive device (IED) blast claimed additional lives the following day.</p>
