<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-local-train-updates-western-railway-announces-new-mumbai-local-train-timetable-from-september-1-adds-six-services-check-full-details-here-23647631" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Western Railway&rsquo;s </a>new suburban Timetable No. 79 is about smarter deployment of the existing 1414 services &mdash; improving connectivity where passengers need it most, while tackling congestion and operational bottlenecks.
Same no. of trains, smarter timetable
The total number of suburban services remains unchanged at 1414. WR has rationalised the timetable based on passenger demand, operating conditions and congestion points
Six New services are being introduced, while six existing low-demand/mainly non-peak services are being withdrawn

<h2>Tackling Borivli congestion&nbsp;</h2>
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/photo/in-photos-heavy-vehicles-cause-peak-hour-traffic-congestion-on-mumbai-flyovers-109990/2" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Peak-hour congestion</a> at Borivli usually leads to heavy door crowding, prolonged boarding/alighting and detention of trains.
. Two evening Churchgate-Virar services &mdash; the 6.22 pm AC service and 7.05 pm service &mdash; will skip their Borivli halt on a trial basis
. For passengers travelling to Borivli on the 6.22 pm AC service, another AC local departs Churchgate just after six minutes at 6.28 pm, which halts at Borivli
The idea is simple&hellip; decongest the choke point while continuing to provide passengers with options.

While selected peak-hour services will skip Borivli to ease congestion, their Dahisar halts are being retained.&nbsp; &nbsp; 2 more AC locals, without increasing total no. of trains
. Two existing non-AC services are being converted into AC services . Weekday AC services increase from 145 to 147

6.24 pm Borivli to Churchgate
. This means more AC capacity without increasing the overall 1414-service count
<h2>Boost for Dahanu Road</h2>
For passengers from the extended suburban belt, there is a major improvement. . Existing Dadar-Virar and Virar-Dahanu Road services being integrated to provide direct Dadar-Dahanu connectivity . The revised service will depart Dadar at 5.22 pm and reach Dahanu Road at 7.30 pm
<h2>Virar-Churchgate morning connectivity boost</h2>
The 8.23 am Virar-Dadar service is being extended all the way to Churchgate. It will reach Churchgate at 9.48 am, giving morning commuters from the extended suburban corridor direct connectivity towards Churchgate.
<h2>Punctuality upgrade</h2>
One of the most important principles behind the new timetable is that punctuality is not only about running more trains &mdash; it is also about preventing avoidable detention at critical locations. The selective skipping of Borivli by identified services is an operational intervention to reduce congestion and train detention, while alternative services continue to serve Borivli.

Churchgate-Borivli AC service reconfigured
The 10.24 am Churchgate-Borivli AC slow service will now operate up to Goregaon. Its return service will also originate from Goregaon.
Off-peak services rationalised
The six withdrawn services are largely those operating during non-peak periods and on shorter-distance routes, including Churchgate-Mumbai Central and selected Churchgate-Borivli services.&nbsp;
