Also known as Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), it's officially named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu in honour of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Constructed at a cost of around Rs 18,000 crore, MTHL is a 6-lane sea link, with 16.50 km over the sea and 5.5 km on land.

The inauguration will take place at 3:30 pm on January 12, with PM Modi travelling on Atal Setu. He will also lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Navi Mumbai.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasised that Atal Setu will accelerate progress in the region, bringing more development to Navi Mumbai and adjacent areas.

Once open for the public, MTHL is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from 2 hours to just 20 minutes.

CM Shinde highlighted that the project was completed without causing any environmental imbalance, leading to an increase in the number of flamingo birds visiting the Sewri coast.

A state-of-the-art traffic management system has been installed on the bridge, capable of detecting fog, low visibility, and vehicles exceeding speed limits.

Mumbai Police has set a maximum speed limit of 100 kmph for four-wheelers on Atal Setu, with restrictions to 40 kmph on the ascend and descend.

The Maharashtra cabinet has approved a toll of Rs 250 for cars using MTHL, aiming to contribute to the project's overall cost.
