The Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have called for a joint protest march in Mumbai on Sunday, October 4, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The route was later revised to begin at Metro Cinema and proceed towards Azad Maidan following a request from Mumbai Police

According to Shiv Sena (UBT) lawmaker Sanjay Raut, the Shetkari Kamgar Paksha (Peasants and Workers Party), Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), Congress, and Left parties had extended their support to the protest

According to news reports, NCP (SP) has instructed all party workers to participate in the march with full strength

Earlier in the week, the Thackeray cousins had said that all the marchers would carry only the Indian National Flag (Tricolour) to underscore the fight for democracy and the Constitution

As a large number of political leaders and their supporters as well as citizens are expected to take part in the protest march, police have been deployed at strategic locations

The arrangements are aimed at managing the movement of protesters and maintaining traffic and public safety during the march

On Friday, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Cockroach Janta Party held a huge protest at Shivaji Park, demanding Gyanesh Kumar's ouster

Meanwhile, the Thackeray cousins had earlier decided to shorten the route of their joint protest march. Addressing a news conference on Friday along with MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab said, "As per the earlier route, we had to cross a flyover at Byculla. There are also dividers of up to 3.5 to 4 feet there. If any untoward incident occurs, there will be no place to escape. So the Mumbai commissioner requested us to change the route. We have honoured the request after discussing the issue with our respective party chiefs"

The timing of the morcha remains 10 am, he said.
