The flyover was virtually inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday, along with the railway overbridges at Sion and Vidyavihar

Fadnavis said the new infrastructure projects would help create seamless north-south and east-west connectivity, helping realise the vision of reducing travel time across the city to 50 to 60 minutes

"These infrastructure projects will be important in our plan to reach from one part of Mumbai to another in 50 to 60 minutes," he said, adding that improved traffic flow would facilitate better movement and enhance ease of living

The flyover, measuring 1.26 km, has been constructed near Hotel Ratnagiri Junction in Goregaon East as part of the GMLR project. It connects General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg with Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Road near Santosh Nagar

The GMLR project aims to connect the Eastern Express Highway with the Western Express Highway and improve travel between Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs

The new connector is expected to reduce congestion around General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg, Dindoshi court, Hotel Ratnagiri Junction and Walbhat River Junction

The flyover will form an important part of the wider GMLR project, which includes twin tunnels planned to improve connectivity between the eastern and western suburbs

The connector inaugurated on Thursday has been built using precast box-shaped concrete segments. A curved steel structure has been used between pillars P7 and P11 to accommodate the complex layout of the junction. The design includes curved spans, multiple connecting flyover structures, foundations suited to local geological conditions and sloping approach roads.
