The Thane Internal Metro Project has been approved to improve connectivity between different parts of the city and reduce travel time for lakhs of daily commuters travelling to railway stations

The project has received approval for funding of Rs 12,200 crore

The metro corridor will cover 29 kilometres and around 26 kilometres will be elevated. A 3-kilometre underground section will connect the existing and the proposed new Thane railway stations

Officials said the project is expected to improve access to both the existing and proposed Thane railway stations while reducing traffic congestion
