Bhide did an on-ground inspection of footpaths in Mumbai's western suburbs and directed civic officials to immediately remove unauthorised hawkers, encroachments and other obstacles

The inspection covered Ram Ganesh Gadkari Road and Swami Vivekanand (S.V.) Road in Vile Parle (West), where the civic body has prioritised clearing footpaths to ensure safer and more convenient movement for pedestrians

According to the BMC, the stretch was selected because it is frequently used by ambulances and patients travelling to Cooper Hospital from S.V. Road via Ram Ganesh Gadkari Road. The route also witnesses heavy footfall from students commuting to nearby colleges

BMC Commissioner further instructed officials to remove unauthorised hawkers, encroachments and all other obstructions from footpaths without delay so that they become completely obstacle-free

The civic body said that, in the first phase of the 'Pedestrian First' initiative, encroachments will be removed from footpaths spanning 320 kilometres across Mumbai to create uninterrupted and accessible walking spaces for citizens
