Seven years after track levels in its Vasai section were lifted by 200 mm, Western Railway (WR) is planning to elevate the tracks by 400 mm so trains can soar above Vasai-Virar’s flood zone. The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), which is laying the fifth and sixth lines between Borivli and Virar, has also been directed to build tracks passing the stretch at a much higher level. Work on raising two of the four existing tracks begins immediately.

The decision comes after a ground survey, readings, and assessment of the line between Mumbai Central and Virar by WR General Manager Ramashray Pandey on Tuesday.
