The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has warned of penal action against the contractor if the Versova sewage treatment plant (STP) is not completed by March 31, 2027. With around 80 per cent of the project completed, the civic body has directed the contractor to ramp up construction, increase the workforce from 340 to 500 by October 31, 2026, and operate in three shifts to meet the deadline.
The directions were issued by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar during an inspection of the project site on Wednesday, where he reviewed the progress of civil, mechanical and electrical works. He instructed officials to expedite construction and ensure that all project components progress simultaneously, without compromising on quality and safety.
