Thane: Court acquits woman accused of killing her newborn child

On April 21, 2018, the woman, hailing from Umbarde village in Kalyan town, went with her husband and newborn baby to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared the child brought dead.

A court in Maharashtra's Thane district has acquitted a 34-year-old woman accused of killing her newborn child, giving her the benefit of doubt.

Kalyan court's Additional Sessions Judge Shaukat S Gorwade, in the October 4 order, which was made available on Monday, held that the prosecution failed to prove the charge against the woman under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder).
