A 51-year-old Thane-based businessman, Bhavesh Navinchandra Majethia, jumped to his death from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link around 11.50 am on Friday. The Worli police have registered an accidental death report and are investigating the matter. According to a preliminary police inquiry, the incident appears to be a suicide due to stress connected to business-related financial losses.
According to an officer of the Worli police station, by the time rescue operations began, shortly after Majethia allegedly jumped into the Arabian Sea, local fishermen could see him floating, but the high tide posed challenges for them in rescuing him. He was eventually brought out of the water around 2.30 pm with the help of firefighters, who used a rubber-based motorboat. Majethia was subsequently taken to Nair Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by the doctor present.
