<p>A 51-year-old scooter rider was killed after a car allegedly driven by the son of a prominent builder and local politician rammed into his two-wheeler in Maharashtra's <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-accident-22-year-old-biker-dies-after-two-wheeler-skids-on-mumbai-agra-highway-and-falls-off-railway-overbridge-onto-tracks-23633671" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane district</a>. Police have arrested the accused and seized the vehicle involved as part of the ongoing investigation.</p>
<p>The accident took place in the early hours of Monday in Ulhasnagar, while the victim was travelling towards Shahad.</p>
<h2>Victim dies after early morning collision</h2>
<p>According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 am when Devendra Singh Rajput, a resident of Mharl village in Kalyan, was riding his scooter towards Shahad.</p>
<p>Officials said a car allegedly driven by Avinash Mutha (32) struck Rajput's scooter, causing him to suffer severe injuries. He succumbed to his injuries following the crash.</p>
<p>Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/two-killed-as-motorcycle-rams-into-dumper-truck-on-highway-in-thane-district-23630751" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">the accident</a> and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.</p>
<h2>Accused arrested, vehicle seized</h2>
<p>The accused, Avinash Mutha, was arrested on Monday afternoon after a case was registered against him based on a complaint filed by the victim's son.</p>
<p>According to police, Mutha is the son of a Kalyan-based jeweller, builder and politician.</p>
<p>A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act for allegedly causing the death of the scooter rider.</p>
<p>Investigators have also impounded the car allegedly involved in the accident for forensic examination and further investigation. Officials said the probe is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-speeding-car-crashes-into-parked-truck-near-kalwa-one-dead-and-four-injured-23625672" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">the fatal crash</a>.</p>
<h2>Police continue investigation</h2>
<p>Authorities are collecting evidence, examining the accident site and recording statements as part of the investigation. Officials have not disclosed whether any additional charges will be invoked pending the outcome of the inquiry.</p>

<p>In another road accident in Maharashtra, <a href="mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-waari-accident-three-warkaris-killed-after-truck-hits-pilgrimage-procession-in-pune-23639518?text-shots=" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">three women pilgrims lost their lives</a> and four others were injured after a truck accompanying an annual pilgrimage procession ran over them in Pune district on Monday morning.</p>
<p>According to police, the accident occurred at around 8.30 am near a hotel, approximately 500 metres ahead of the Belsar toll plaza on the road to Jejuri. The victims were walking about 12 km ahead of the main palanquin procession.</p>
<p>A preliminary inquiry indicated that the 70-year-old truck driver, who was reportedly unwell and taking medication for fever and cold, allegedly veered to the left while attempting to overtake another vehicle before hitting the group of pilgrims.</p>
<h2>Annual pilgrimage draws thousands of devotees</h2>
<p>Every year, thousands of devotees from across Maharashtra participate in the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur in Solapur district to offer prayers at the Vitthal temple on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi.</p>
